Not so fast! Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is in development for 2027.

Before the release of the third movie, Paramount Pictures is working on Sonic the Hedgehog 4, with an eye on a spring 2027 release.

More adventures of the blue hedgehog are on the way. It has been announced that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is in development at Paramount Pictures, with a projected release date set for spring 2027. This news comes a day before the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in theaters, scheduled for December 20.

Details about the plot of Sonic 4 have not yet been revealed. Based on the popular Sega video game series, the story follows the exploits of Sonic, an animal that runs at super speeds. In the live-action films, the character is portrayed by comedian Ben Schwartz. The first installment, released in 2020, received favorable reviews and managed to gross $320 million worldwide on a budget of less than $90 million.

The success of the original film led to the creation of a sequel, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which was released in 2022. This second installment outperformed the first, grossing $405 million on a budget of around $110 million. Additionally, a spin-off series titled Knuckles has been launched, starring Idris Elba, which began streaming on Paramount+ in April.

In Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Sonic will once again team up with Miles “Tails” Prower and Knuckles. Together, they will face a formidable opponent, Shadow the Hedgehog, a powerful being created by the government who has escaped. To stop Shadow, Sonic will have to collaborate with the villain Dr. Robotnik. The cast of Sonic 3 includes James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Shemar Moore, Adam Pally, Lee Majdoub, Alyla Browne, and Krysten Ritter. Jeff Fowler directs this new installment from a script written by Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington, based on a story by Casey and Miller. Initial box office estimates indicate that Sonic 3 could open with a gross between $55 and $60 million.
