Nintendo details the backward compatibility of the Switch 2.
In general, the news is positive, although there are some exceptions.
During the recent Nintendo Switch 2 event, a notice appeared at the bottom of the screen inviting viewers to visit the company's website for detailed information about the original Switch games that will be compatible with the new console. Nintendo has prepared a fairly comprehensive resource page that lists all the titles it has tested so far, both from its own production and from external developers.
The information presented reveals that most of the previous generation games will run smoothly when the Switch 2 is available on the market on June 5. Unexpectedly, several titles that were thought to be incompatible, such as Ring Fit Adventure, 1-2-Switch, and the various Labo kits, will also offer some level of compatibility if the original Joy-Cons are used or other methods explained by Nintendo are applied. Apparently, there is only one game that will not work at all: the Labo VR kit, which is understandable to many.
Nintendo has also categorized the games into two groups: those with launch issues, which include titles like Doom Eternal, Rocket League, NBA 2K25, and Warframe, and others that are playable but have compatibility issues during gameplay. The company has emphasized its commitment to improving compatibility by working closely with its publishing and development partners, and it is expected that these efforts will continue until the console's release in June.
Additionally, Nintendo has announced which original Switch games will receive enhancements through future patches, including titles like Arms, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, and Super Mario Odyssey, among others.
