Nintendo Switch 2: Everything We Know About Pre-order Plans, Specifications, Prices, Games, and More.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to be released in 2025. Below are all the confirmed details, as well as rumors and speculations about the new console.

Thanks to the Nintendo teaser trailer released on January 16, we already knew what the Nintendo Switch 2 would look like and that its launch is scheduled for 2025, more than eight years after its predecessor. Now, a special event focused on the Switch 2 is anticipated, which will be streamed on YouTube on April 2 at 9 AM ET, where key details such as price, release date, and pre-order information will be shared. It is also expected that some new games will be showcased.

Since the announcement in January, quite a few details about the new console have been revealed. The Switch 2 has a design similar to the original device but with a larger screen, magnetic Joy-Cons, and a more polished design. Additionally, the company confirmed that the new console will be backward compatible with Switch games.

The April 2 event already has a countdown on YouTube, and Nintendo has confirmed that it will last "approximately 60 minutes," promising more content than many of its recent streams focused solely on games. If that isn't enough, there will also be gameplay videos on April 3 and 4 at 10 AM ET.

The Switch 2 was heavily anticipated for its announcement on January 16, and the rumors were confirmed. The console will maintain the basic shape of a handheld device, with detachable Joy-Cons and the ability to dock for playing on larger screens. However, the improvements are notable, the most obvious being the system of Joy-Cons that connect magnetically instead of sliding in. Two USB-C ports have also been added to the top, making it easier to connect accessories.

The headphone jack is still present, and Bluetooth headphone compatibility is expected to be available from the start. The kickstand also receives an upgrade, as it now adjusts along the device, allowing for modifications to the viewing angle.

Many questions remain about the console, including technical specifications, battery life, user interface, and launch games. These details are expected to be clarified during the April 2 stream.

The console is scheduled for release in 2025, but it is unlikely to be announced before the Nintendo event. Information about the exact release date will be revealed during the presentation.

Registration to try out the Switch 2 will take place at a series of events around the world, starting in New York and Paris from April 4 to 6, followed by other cities. However, registration is already closed for many of these events.

There has been speculation that the Switch 2 will include unusual functionalities, such as a new button on the right Joy-Con and an optical sensor, which could allow for mouse-like usage in some contexts. Additionally, it has been confirmed that it will be compatible with the Nintendo Online service, and both physical and digital Switch games will work on the new platform.

Regarding the price, there is no concrete information, but it is expected to be higher than the launch price of the original, which was $300. Some analysts suggest it could range between $400 and $500.

Nintendo seems ready for a big launch, with plans to have a considerable inventory on release day. Demand will be high, as many fans are looking for an upgrade to their current devices.

For now, details about the launch games are scarce, although a new Mario Kart title and the possibilities of a new 3D Mario game have been mentioned as candidates to accompany the launch.

As the April 2 stream approaches, more details about the Nintendo Switch 2 are expected to be revealed.
