Netflix is expanding its catalog of thrillers with the announcement of two new titles. Robert De Niro will star in "The Whisper Man," while Ben Affleck and Gillian Anderson will be part of "Animals," a crime thriller.
"The Whisper Man" tells the story of a widowed crime writer whose life turns into a nightmare after his son goes missing. Meanwhile, "Animals" revolves around a kidnapping related to a mayoral candidate.
De Niro, who has previously portrayed a U.S. president in his series "Zero Day," a political thriller set to premiere on February 20, is joining this new project, which is an adaptation of Alex North's bestselling novel. Angela Russo-Otstot, the creative director of AGBO, the Russo brothers' company, commented that "The Whisper Man" is a gripping thriller that explores deep themes about the relationship between parents and children.
Meanwhile, "Animals," although not much has been revealed about its plot, is being set up to be directed and starred in by Affleck, who replaced Matt Damon in the lead role due to scheduling conflicts.
Despite receiving criticism for the quality of its thrillers, the stellar cast of these productions could indicate a positive change in its catalog. More details about the casting of both films are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
