Microsoft warns administrators about the upcoming deactivation date of a key driver.

A warning has been issued regarding the discontinuation of WSUS driver synchronization.

Microsoft has reminded administrators that driver synchronization in Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) will be discontinued starting April 18, 2025. This 60-day notice serves as a call to action for those who have not yet transitioned to alternative solutions, although they were already informed about this change back in June 2024.

After the deactivation date, it will not be possible to import new drivers into WSUS, although local drivers will remain accessible through the Microsoft Update Catalog. As an alternative, organizations are encouraged to use device driver packages or cloud-based driver services, such as Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopatch.

In the initial communication from June 2024, Paul Reed, Senior Program Manager at Microsoft, indicated that only 34% of users were utilizing WSUS for driver synchronization and many were in the process of transitioning to other systems. Reed also expressed the company's commitment to support the remaining 8% who have concerns about the impact of the deactivation on their operations.

Additionally, it was reported in September 2024 that WSUS as a platform is also intended to be discontinued, with an emphasis on cloud solutions like Intune. Microsoft reaffirms its timeline, maintaining the April 18 deactivation date and working with users to ease the transition.
