Microsoft reignites its focus on Xbox cloud gaming.

Since Microsoft began discussing its cloud gaming division in 2018, there have been ambitious plans for the future of Xbox. Kareem Choudhry, former head of xCloud, mentioned in an interview that the company aimed to reach 2 billion gamers worldwide. The goal was to leverage cloud gaming technology to attract potential Xbox players in emerging markets and the millions of mobile users who could stream Xbox games on their devices.

However, after more than six years of working on this vision, Microsoft is still far from achieving this goal. The idea of a multitude of people streaming Xbox games to their devices seems distant, perhaps even decades away. The company has not effectively penetrated the mobile space, access to cloud gaming still relies on an expensive Game Pass Ultimate subscription, and the visual quality and latency of Xbox's streamed games are inferior to the competition. Despite these challenges, Microsoft continues to persist in its efforts.
