LG XBoom Go XG2T vs. JBL Clip 5: Which Compact Bluetooth Speaker Will Be the Best?

Two young nature-loving speakers compete for dominance.

The LG XBoom Go XG2T and JBL Clip 5 portable speakers were launched in 2024 with fairly similar prices, although each offers distinct features that may appeal to different types of users. Both models stand out for their compact design and protection against water and dust, boasting an IP67 rating in both cases, making them ideal options for outdoor activities.

The LG XBoom Go XG2T features a solid build and a unique design with an adjustable loop that can be attached to various surfaces, although its battery performance is moderate, reaching about 10 hours during normal use. In comparison, the JBL Clip 5 also comes with a carabiner for easy transport and offers up to 12 hours of playback, which can be extended to 15 hours if its battery extension mode, PlayTime Boost, is activated.

In terms of sound quality, the JBL Clip 5 excels in its ability to reproduce bass and details in music tracks. While the XG2T has good vocal clarity, its bass performance is not as powerful as that of the Clip 5. The latter demonstrates a better response in low frequencies and delivers a more dynamic sound even at higher volumes, where both models may exhibit some distortion.

Equalization settings are limited on both models, with the Clip 5 offering only three options and the XG2T two. However, both allow for customization through companion apps, providing a bit more flexibility in sound configuration.

Regarding design, both speakers are attractive and durable. The XG2T sports a robust look in a black and red color combination, while the Clip 5 offers a variety of color options that add a fun and customizable element. The XG2T’s button system includes a volume control in the form of a wheel, which some users may prefer over the traditional buttons of the Clip 5.

In conclusion, although both provide good value for money, the Clip 5 stands out in terms of sound quality. While the XG2T is a valid option with its unique features, the JBL Clip 5 remains the preferred choice between the two for its superior sound performance.
