The new Amazon Fire HD 8 tablet, with improved performance, is now available on sale for Prime Day.

Amazon has updated its line of Fire HD 8 tablets, introducing the 2024 model with significant improvements. This affordable device now features more RAM, an upgraded rear camera, and some integrated artificial intelligence functionalities. With a usual starting price of $100 (including ads on the lock screen), it is already available for purchase during October's Prime Day.

As the name suggests, the new Fire HD 8 offers an 8-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 (189 ppi). One of the main improvements in the 2024 model is that the standard version now includes 3GB of RAM, while the 64GB variant increases to 4GB. Although these figures are not revolutionary for a budget tablet, they represent an increase of between 50% and 100% compared to the 2GB of RAM in the 2022 model.

Amazon claims that the Fire HD 8 can deliver up to 13 hours of battery life. Additionally, the rear camera has a resolution of 5MP, which is the same as the "Plus" version of its 2022 predecessor, surpassing the 2MP of the previous standard version.

This model also incorporates generative artificial intelligence capabilities, similar to Apple’s updates in 2024. Some of these functionalities include a writing assistant that can generate messages based on prompts, summarize web pages, provide grammar suggestions, and improve the conciseness of texts.

Additionally, there will be two versions designed for children: the Fire HD 8 Kids and the Fire HD 8 Kids Pro. These variants, as is usual in Amazon's child-oriented offerings, will come with a "kid-proof" case featuring Disney designs (like Pixar Cars, Disney Princess, or Marvel Avengers) and a subscription to Amazon Kids+, which provides access to a variety of content (including mobile games) for little ones.

The Fire HD 8 is already available on Amazon for a starting price of $55 during Prime Day, although its regular price is $100. Meanwhile, the Fire HD 8 Kids tablet will generally start at $140 but is currently on sale for $70 at the same event.
