Amazon's recent device launch not only included four new Kindle models but also brought a new Fire TV Stick. This new device, known as the Fire TV Stick HD, replaces the Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick Lite, establishing a new entry point to the market with a price of $34.99 / £39.99 / AU$69. It is currently available for pre-order.
The Fire TV Stick HD maintains a rectangular black design, similar to the models it replaces, and connects to the HDMI port on the back of the TV. While it is discreet, it will require power via a micro USB port, which may come as a surprise in 2024, although Amazon includes a cable and power adapter in the box.
This new streaming stick promises to deliver the classic experience that characterizes Amazon devices, allowing content streaming in up to 1080p HD and supporting HDR formats, HDR 10, HDR10+, and HLG. While it doesn't include advanced features like Dolby Vision or Dolby Atmos, it is compatible with audio encoded in Dolby.
One of the standout features of the Fire TV Stick HD is that it comes with an Alexa voice remote. This remote not only facilitates functions like turning the TV on and adjusting the volume, but by holding down the blue Alexa button, users can navigate content and make requests vocally. Additionally, two AA batteries are included in the box for its operation.
The device is compatible with major streaming services, such as Prime Video, Netflix, Hulu, Apple TV+, Max, Paramount+, and Disney+, although a subscription is required to access them. In terms of connectivity, the Fire TV Stick HD supports Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth LE, and Bluetooth 5.0, making it easy to connect to networks and other devices.
A 1.7GHz Quad-Core processor and 1GB of RAM power the experience, while the 8GB of internal storage should be sufficient, especially for streaming apps. In addition to watching movies and TV shows, users will also be able to play through Amazon Luna on the Fire TV Stick HD.
With an affordable price and a range of interesting features, Amazon aims to provide great value with this new release. By eliminating the confusion between previous models, consumers can opt for this new stick hassle-free, while the older models will remain available until sold out.
