John McAfee 'Rises' to Promote a Memecoin on Elon Musk's X Platform.
McAfee passed away in 2021. His account on X has started promoting a memecoin.
John McAfee has made a comeback, at least virtually, through his account on the platform X, formerly known as Twitter. Although the founder of the McAfee antivirus was found dead by suicide in June 2021 in a prison in Spain, his account @officialmcafee started posting content again. This return occurred on Wednesday night, generating a stir among followers.
It is important to mention that the account had not been completely inactive since his death, as his wife, Janice McAfee, had been using the account with over a million followers to share and retweet content related to him. However, the post made by @officialmcafee marked its first message since November of the previous year, stating that he had returned, but in the form of artificial intelligence. According to the message, his return was associated with the launch of a memecoin.
The post said: "I’m back with AIntivirus. A version of myself as AI. Did you think I would miss this cycle?" This refers to the current surge in the popularity of memecoins, driven by the recent launch of the $TRUMP token by former President Donald Trump.
Following the publication, speculation quickly arose about the possibility that the account had been hacked. However, @officialmcafee hurried to reassure followers, stating that the account had not been compromised and that everything was authentic.
Janice McAfee also spoke on her own account, confirming the legitimacy of the post from @officialmcafee. However, she clarified that the idea of John McAfee's resurrection in the form of AI was not true. She revealed that the memecoin was created by her to "honor John's legacy."
Before his death, McAfee already had experience in the world of cryptocurrencies, facing charges related to fraud and money laundering in this area. He is estimated to have lost much of his $100 million fortune before he passed away. According to his widow, McAfee died without a will or estate, leaving her without financial resources.
At the time of writing this article, the memecoin AIntivirus had a market value of $37 million.
