It is rumored that Microsoft will soon release a smaller version of the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop.
Ready to depart?
It has been less than a year since Microsoft introduced its first Surface devices powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon X, and now a rumor is emerging that new models could be launched as soon as this spring. A report updates the existing rumors from 2023, mentioning that updated versions of the Surface Laptop and Surface Pro 2-in-1 are in development. These new devices will feature displays ranging from 11 to 12 inches, run Windows on ARM architecture, and showcase lighter designs with a focus on premium quality.
Microsoft has scheduled an "important" event for Surface for Business next week, where it is expected to unveil variants of the current Surface Laptop 7 and Surface Pro 11 CoPilot Plus, equipped with Intel's Lunar Lake chips, aimed at the enterprise market.
According to the gathered information, it is unclear where these smaller devices will be launched, although they are anticipated to use more budget-friendly chipsets, such as the Snapdragon X Plus or possibly the Snapdragon X recently introduced at CES, with estimated prices between $800 and $900. Apparently, when Microsoft updated its Surface Laptop Go line to a third generation in 2023, the price was considered unjustifiable, but the performance and battery life offered by Qualcomm's hardware could change that perception for a new model.
The new, smaller Surface Pro is being considered a direct competitor to Apple's 11-inch iPad Pro, although it has yet to be clarified if it is intended to replace the older Surface Go series, which last received an update with the Surface Go 4, aimed at business users.
