Google Workspace introduces numerous new artificial intelligence features, including enhancements in Docs.

Google has introduced a variety of new AI features for Workspace, highlighting that Docs will include audio summaries and AI-assisted writing support.

Google shows confidence in its Gemini model by continually implementing artificial intelligence features across its product range. Recently, Workspace has been the target of this update, with innovations set to arrive in Docs, Sheets, Vids, Meet, and Chat, alongside a new feature called Workspace Flows, which introduces the "agent" AI.

First of all, Docs will incorporate audio capabilities and AI-assisted writing. The podcast feature, which debuted in NotebookLM and received praise, will now expand to Google Docs. In the coming weeks, users will have access to AI-generated summaries in a podcast format, where two AI avatars present the content. These summaries are promoted as a helpful tool for those wishing to multitask. In addition to this feature, an audio version of the document itself will be available, allowing users to detect unusual phrases in their writing or review the content without needing to read it from the screen.

Another change in Docs is the “Help me refine” option, which Google claims goes beyond being just a text generator. This model is designed to provide "thoughtful suggestions" that improve both the language and content of the user's work. While some tools that require active participation may not appeal to everyone, Google's offer aims to foster the development of writing and communication skills.

This approach might generate competition with other tools like Grammarly, as users could feel uncomfortable receiving error alerts from different platforms simultaneously. On the other hand, Google Sheets will introduce a bot called "Help me analyze," aimed at helping users identify relevant patterns and trends in their data, recommending guidelines without taking full control to avoid confusion.

Regarding Vids, video generation will be enabled within the app, while Meet will add a personal assistant to support users in discussions. In Chat, Gemini will allow users to request summaries of lengthy conversations, making it easier to access the most relevant information. Finally, Workspace will also deploy AI agents that facilitate teams in developing automated processes, improving work efficiency. These agents, known as Gems, will analyze documents in Google Drive to provide context and guidance in decision-making, prioritizing human intervention in the process to avoid mistakes.

A gradual rollout of these features is expected, mostly over the coming weeks or months, with some updates reserved for later in the year.
