Google will adopt Anthropic's standard to link AI models with data.
A few weeks after OpenAI announced its intention to adopt Anthropic's standard for linking AI models with the systems that store data, Google has decided to do the same.
Recently, Google has decided to follow OpenAI's example by incorporating Anthropic's Context Protocol Model (CPM) into its Gemini models and SDK. This decision was announced by Google DeepMind's CEO, Demis Hassabis, in a post on X, although no specific date for implementation was mentioned.
Hassabis described the CPM as a useful protocol that is gaining popularity and establishing itself as an open standard in the age of artificial intelligence. The functionality of the CPM allows models to access data from various sources, such as business tools and software, to carry out tasks. It also facilitates the creation of bidirectional connections between data sources and AI-powered applications, such as chatbots.
Developers can use "CPM servers" to share data and develop "CPM clients," such as applications and workflows, that connect to those servers when prompted. Since Anthropic made the CPM open source, several companies, including Block, Apollo, Replit, Codeium, and Sourcegraph, have begun integrating this protocol into their platforms.
