Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, met with the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, during the AI Action Summit 2025 in Paris. Pichai shared a photograph of the meeting on his social media account, expressing his satisfaction at meeting the leader. During their conversation, they discussed the significant impact that artificial intelligence (AI) will have on India's digital transformation.
In his address at the summit, Prime Minister Modi highlighted how AI is markedly transforming politics, economy, security, and society worldwide. He emphasized that artificial intelligence is laying the foundation for humanity in this century. Additionally, he stressed India's advancements in creating a public digital infrastructure for its over 1.4 billion citizens, highlighting the "low cost" of developing this initiative. In his speech, Modi stated that this has allowed digital commerce to be "democratic and accessible to all." He also expressed his desire for India to host the next AI Action Summit.
On social media, Pichai shared his excitement following the meeting, mentioning that they discussed the great opportunities that AI will bring to India and the ways they could collaborate in the country's digital transformation. However, there were questions about when India will be able to make significant strides in the field of artificial intelligence and compete on par with counterparts like China and the United States, who are at the forefront. Despite achievements in information technology, it was noted that India is still on the path to reaching accomplishments made by innovation giants in Silicon Valley.
