Ford's charging adapters for Tesla superchargers are now on sale for $200.

The adapters will have a selling price of 200 dollars.

Ford has made adjustments to its electric vehicle (EV) charging accessory management. The company was a pioneer in announcing its intention to adopt Tesla's connector known as the North American Charging Standard (NACS) for its electric vehicles, and it was also the first to offer NACS adapters at no cost to its customers. However, this grace period has come to an end, as Ford has begun sending the adapters to the 140,000 customers who reserved them.

As of today, those who need an NACS adapter will have to pay $200. These adapters, co-developed by Ford and Lectron, can handle up to 500 amperes and 1,000 volts. They underwent a series of exhaustive tests, including being crushed by a truck and submerged in water, to ensure they function correctly to connect Ford electric vehicles to Tesla Superchargers.

Ford has faced challenges such as delays and product recalls in the delivery of these adapters. The deadline to receive an adapter for free has been extended multiple times, and the company had to inform its customers to stop using the adapter after detecting an issue related to charging speed, although Lectron indicated that only a small batch was affected. To mitigate these shortages, Ford began offering its own adapters developed by Lectron last year, while awaiting Tesla to ramp up its production.

In a blog post, Ken Williams, head of Ford's charging and energy services, thanked everyone who has waited for their free charger, highlighting that all adapters reserved by customers in the U.S. have been shipped. Ford also mentioned the growth of its BlueOval Charging Network, which now includes Tesla Supercharger stations, allowing Ford EV owners to pay for charging through the Ford Pass app. This network has over 180,000 chargers at more than 50,000 locations, representing a 40 percent increase since early 2024.

Additionally, Ford is implementing updates to make it easier for its customers to use Tesla charging stations. Electric vehicle owners using Apple Maps via CarPlay will receive routes to nearby Superchargers when planning a trip that requires charging.
