Ford asks some electric vehicle customers to stop using their Tesla charger adapter.

Free replacements will be sent to the affected individuals.

Ford began providing free adapters for Tesla's Supercharger network to owners of its electric vehicles in February. However, it has recently asked some of its customers to stop using them due to the detection of a "potential issue" that could result in "reduced charging speeds over time" or even damage to the charging port, according to a service bulletin sent to those affected.

Ford electric vehicle owners must follow the link in the company's notice to verify that their address is correct in its records. If the address is correct, they will not need to take any further action to receive their replacement adapter, but if there is any error, the company requests that they update their information before October 24. Ford is committed to sending a replacement adapter in the coming weeks and will provide instructions for returning the current adapter, all at no cost. It is essential that all affected adapters be returned to minimize the risk of potential damage to the vehicle.

Ford is expected to begin shipping replacement adapters to customers during the week of October 28. Reports indicate that only "a specific recent batch" of Ford's North American Charging Standard adapters is affected. Both Rivian and General Motors reported that they have not encountered similar issues with their own adapters.
