Doom: The Dark Ages is presented with an impressive style and will be released in May.
A more accessible Doom.
id Software is about to launch its new game in the Doom series, titled Doom: The Dark Ages, on May 15. The announcement was made during a recent Xbox Developer Direct broadcast, where detailed content from the game was showcased for the first time, which will serve as a prequel. As the name suggests, The Dark Ages is set in a medieval fantasy world, taking place long before the events of Doom Eternal and the franchise reboot in 2016.
The developers have mentioned that this installment will offer a larger world and a deeper narrative, with an increased number of cutscenes. However, one of the most prominent aspects of this title is the shift in gameplay. This time, melee combat will play a central role, providing players access to new and brutal weapons like a spiked club and an iron mace. Additionally, the scale of battles has grown significantly. It was known that players would have the opportunity to ride a cyber-dragon, but the presentation also revealed a mecha suit the size of a skyscraper that will allow the Doomslayer to face enemies the size of kaiju.
Another important new feature is the inclusion of accessibility options through a series of configuration sliders. These will allow players to adjust aspects such as game speed or parry timing, giving them the flexibility to customize their experience, whether to make it more accessible or considerably more challenging. There will also be standard difficulty options available.
Doom: The Dark Ages will be available on PS5, Xbox, and PC at its launch in May.
