Discovery+ has received a major update to its streaming app, getting closer to Max: discover 5 new features you must try.

Take Discovery+ to the max.

Discovery+ subscribers are about to receive a significant new update to their streaming apps, according to an announcement from Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD). Starting on March 12, all users in the United States and Canada who update their apps will benefit from five new features, many of which will be familiar to those using WBD's Max service. This update means that the Discovery+ app has migrated to the same internal technology platform that WBD uses for its HBO streaming service, which, according to WBD's Chief Technology Officer Avi Saxena, will allow for a "richer set of features."

The unification of the technological infrastructure for its streaming services will enable WBD to implement backend changes, including bug fixes and design updates more efficiently. Among the new features available in Discovery+, highlights include:

  • An improved homepage, similar to that of Max.
  • More personalized content recommendations.
  • A new search design that makes navigating between episodes easier.
  • The option to log into the app via a QR code.
  • Social media sharing functionality.

The update includes navigation tools that could greatly facilitate searching for content within the app. The new search design promises to make jumping between episodes of a series much easier, which is particularly useful for long reality series with multiple seasons and episodes.

Additionally, a new sharing tool has been introduced that will allow Discovery+ subscribers to easily send content to friends and family, although WBD clarifies that this feature is intended for "adult profile users," which could indicate that it is disabled for minors. The new homepage is also expected to provide more tailored recommendations thanks to machine learning.

Lastly, WBD assures that the update will enhance the overall performance of the Discovery+ app, enabling better video resolution and a smoother playback experience.
