Comcast customers will be able to enjoy Super Bowl LIX in 4K with Dolby Vision and Atmos.

Comcast will be the only provider offering the Super Bowl broadcast with Dolby Vision and Atmos technology.

Subscribers of Comcast Xfinity who have an Xi6 device or one of Comcast's Xumo streaming boxes will enjoy an exceptional experience during Super Bowl LIX, which will take place on February 9, 2025, where the Kansas City Chiefs will face off against the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans, Louisiana. According to Comcast, this year the event will be broadcast in an "enhanced 4K format." However, the company seems to underestimate the visual and auditory experience that its customer base will be able to enjoy.

Super Bowl LIX will be recorded in 1080p, but the video signal will be upscaled to 4K using professional cutting-edge technology. Then, the signal will receive Dolby HDR processing, allowing for a broadcast with Dolby Vision HDR to compatible TVs, maximizing the visual impact based on the individual capabilities of each screen. This means the visual spectacle will be truly stunning.

Enhancing this visual experience, there will be a Dolby Atmos surround sound signal, providing those with compatible TVs, soundbars, and home theater systems with a sound symphony akin to what they would experience in the stadium, enriching the atmosphere of the event. Viewers will even be able to hear Taylor Swift cheering from a corner of their living room.

In addition to the high resolution and immersive experience, Comcast plans to stream the signal at 30 Mbps, suggesting less compressed video with deeper color information, contributing to better clarity and sharpness in the image. To ensure the stability of this high-bitrate signal throughout the game, Comcast employs an "edge delivery" mechanism based on its DASH standard, guaranteeing that the high-quality experience occurs without interruptions.

Comcast customers will need a 4K TV, ideally equipped with Dolby Vision, and compatible devices like the Xi6 or Xumo streaming boxes. Those who are unsure about their equipment's compatibility should consult with Comcast, as they might have enough time to acquire what is necessary before the big event.
