ChatGPT experienced a significant outage this morning, but OpenAI states that it is operational again.

The OpenAI AI chatbot platform, ChatGPT, experienced a significant outage on Thursday. However, the company assures that the service has been restored.

On Thursday, OpenAI's chatbot platform, ChatGPT, experienced a significant outage. Starting in the early morning hours, users began reporting difficulties accessing ChatGPT both on the web and across other platforms. According to the ChatGPT status page on OpenAI's website, the company acknowledged the issue at 5:12 a.m. Pacific Time and identified the root cause a little less than an hour later. In an update published at 5:43 a.m., they stated that they were working to implement a solution.

Later, at 7:09 a.m., OpenAI communicated that the solution had already been applied and they were "monitoring the results." At the time of publication, ChatGPT was accessible on the web. It was also reported that the OpenAI API experienced downtime that morning, although the company assured that this issue had been resolved.

It is unusual for ChatGPT to be down for hours, although it has happened on previous occasions. Recently, in December, both ChatGPT, the OpenAI API, and the video generator Sora faced serious service interruptions. At that time, OpenAI quickly admitted to the problem and began working on a solution, although it took approximately three hours to restore all the tools. They later attributed that outage to errors in a new telemetry service.
