BioWare Faces Layoffs as It Prepares for the New Mass Effect.

The new Dragon Age game from BioWare also did not meet expectations.

BioWare has reduced its workforce to less than 100 employees following a recent restructuring that involved the layoff of approximately twenty workers and the reassignment of others to different projects within Electronic Arts (EA). This information was revealed in a recent report.

The news comes after the release of a "Studio Update" by Gary McKay, the general manager, who indicated that the studio has been working hard in recent months to relocate many of its employees to other EA teams with available vacancies. According to the report, several employees who had been "loaned" to other EA teams after the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard were informed that those changes would be permanent.

McKay mentioned that a "core team" at the studio is focused on the development of the next Mass Effect video game, which was first glimpsed in a trailer over four years ago. He also stated that these changes will help BioWare become a more agile and focused studio. Although McKay's post did not mention layoffs, it is known that the company had more than 200 employees two years ago.

In the context of this restructuring, EA also reported last week that Dragon Age: The Veilguard did not meet expectations and that EA Sports FC has not performed as expected in fiscal year 2025. The company has not provided immediate comments on the current situation at BioWare, and other outlets have reported on these layoffs.
