Apple's future smart glasses could resemble Meta's Ray-Ban.

Apple is developing smart glasses that could resemble Meta's Ray-Ban glasses.

Apple may be working on smart glasses that would directly compete with Meta's Ray-Ban and Amazon's Echo Frames. According to a Bloomberg journalist, these standalone glasses would be equipped with artificial intelligence, cameras, microphones, and high-quality audio features, similar to those offered by Ray-Ban glasses, which are owned by the company behind Instagram and WhatsApp. Additionally, they are expected to be lightweight and effectively integrate with the iPhone, allowing users to wear them throughout the day.

However, it is estimated that the development of these glasses could take between three to five years before they are available in the wearable devices market. Although the tech giant is considering different options to make this project a reality, the announcement comes at a time when the Apple Vision Pro has had disappointing commercial performance. Consumers have noted that its high price of $3,500, discomfort, and lack of innovation in the augmented/virtual reality space have affected its acceptance.

Apple had also attempted to develop augmented reality glasses to compete with Ray-Ban, but that project was canceled because the device did not pass the required evaluations, and the development team continued to change objectives to reach its full potential. If Apple decides to proceed with the launch of these glasses, which would mimic those from Meta, along with accessories and styles unique to the brand, they may not be available until 2030.
