Another Annoying Reason to Upgrade to Windows 11.

Failures in installations are not unusual, but what happens when a Windows 10 update keeps reinstalling despite having previously completed the installation successfully?

A new problem has arisen with the latest update of Windows 10, version KB5048239, which has been reinstalling over and over without measure. This update was initially released by Microsoft in November 2024 for versions 21H2 and 22H2 and, although it was meant to fix issues related to the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE), it has not resolved the failures as expected.

Users have expressed their frustration on various platforms, reporting that after running the troubleshooter, the update was reinstalled, even changing the installation date from yesterday to today. One of the affected users, Brian Lofthouse, described the experience as a "carousel," referring to the continuous repetition of the installation. Another user, Dean Wortmier, complained that the update had been successful in November but constantly returned for reinstallation.

This installation cycle has affected hundreds of users, who notice that there is no official communication from Microsoft regarding a solution to this situation. Many have attempted to remove previous versions of the update in an effort to resolve the issue, but without success, even those who have the required 250MB of space in their Windows recovery partition continue to face the annoyance.

With the end of life for Windows 10 expected this year, this situation adds to the list of reasons to consider switching to Windows 11 or more recent versions.
