Significant flaws in Windows 11 increase the usefulness of Microsoft's 'Windows Update Troubleshooter' tool, although it may not work for everyone.

A secret tool to solve Windows 11 problems.

Windows 11 has faced several challenges recently due to a series of controversial and, at times, faulty updates released by Microsoft. However, the company has also been developing tools to help users troubleshoot issues, one of which is 'Fix problems using Windows Update,' a name that clearly and directly reflects its purpose.

This resource, which began testing in 2023, has been officially integrated into Windows 11. Microsoft has released support documentation detailing its functionality, stating that the tool will “reinstall the current version of Windows on your device.”

Reinstalling the operating system has been a last resort for troubleshooting for years, given how cumbersome it used to be. However, the process has been significantly simplified in Windows 11, as it is no longer necessary to have a DVD or a product key on hand, and there are options to 'reset' the PC while keeping personal files, which did not require prior backups.

The 'Fix problems using Windows Update' tool promises to further ease the reinstallation of Windows 11, minimizing interruptions for users. According to the Windows 11 Settings app, its function is to “reinstall your current version of Windows (keeping apps, files, and settings).”

Though I have not had the chance to try it yet, there is hope that it will retain installed applications, unlike the current reset that removes all programs, only offering shortcuts to reinstall them from the Microsoft Store.

To access this tool, users need to go to Settings > System > Recovery. It will also be available if an update fails during installation.

These types of tools are becoming increasingly necessary as more issues arise in Windows 11. Unlike Apple, which controls a limited number of hardware with macOS, Microsoft faces the challenge of supporting a wide range of PCs with different configurations, making it difficult to ensure trouble-free releases.

However, not all Windows 11 users will be able to use this tool, as having Windows 11 22H2 or a newer version, along with the optional February 2024 update, is required. Those using older versions of Windows 11 or Windows 10 will not be able to benefit from this new feature.
