Amazon will close its Android app store.

The Amazon Appstore will no longer be available, at least on Android devices starting in August.

Amazon has announced that, starting August 20, 2025, its app store for Android devices will be discontinued. This decision also includes the end of its digital currency program, known as Amazon Coins, which allowed users to purchase apps and games. The details of these changes were shared in a support document directed at developers.

According to the company's communication, from the mentioned date, users will no longer be able to access the Amazon Appstore on their Android devices. Any unredeemed digital coins before this date will be refunded. It is important to note that these changes will only affect users of non-Amazon devices, as the store will remain operational on products like Fire TV and Fire Tablet.

An Amazon spokesperson mentioned that the reason behind this decision is to focus efforts on optimizing the Appstore experience on its own devices, where the majority of users interact. While the Google Play Store is the most recognized among Android users, there are alternative app stores due to the open nature of the platform. The closure of the Amazon Appstore on Android devices may be linked to reduced usage. This is not the first time Amazon has shut down its app store for non-proprietary devices, as it discontinued its operation on Windows last year.
