A new model of Nothing Phone can now download the Android 15 beta.

If you own a Nothing Phone 2a Plus, you can now access the beta version of Android 15.

Nothing has been conducting an open beta for Android 15 with Nothing OS 3.0 for various devices, including the Nothing Phone 2, Phone 2a, and CMF Phone 1. Now, users of the Nothing Phone 2a Plus can also access this beta version, marking a new advancement for this model.

The Nothing Phone 2a Plus has been a subject of curiosity, as it presents itself as a “new but not really” device due to its design being very similar to the Nothing Phone 2a, with only a few specification improvements. The main differences are the inclusion of a MediaTek Dimensity 7350 Pro chip instead of the Dimensity 7200 Pro in the Phone 2a, a fixed storage capacity of 256GB without an option for 128GB, and a 50MP front camera instead of 32MP. Aside from these minor improvements, the overall features of both phones are practically the same.

Starting December 12, 2024, users of the Nothing Phone 2a Plus, along with those of the Nothing Phone 2, Phone 2a, and CMF Phone 1, will be able to access the Android 15 and Nothing OS 3.0 beta. To install it, users will need to download an APK file and follow the provided instructions. If they wish to revert to a stable version of Android 14 later, a rollback method is available.

Below is the change log accompanying this beta:

  • Shared Widgets: Allow linking with friends and family by displaying their widgets on the home screen and reacting to them.
  • Lock Screen: A new lock screen customization page is added, accessible through a long press or from the customization menu. Improvements in clock styles and more space for widgets on the lock screen.
  • Smart Drawer: An intelligent feature that automatically organizes apps into folders for better organization.
  • Quick Settings: Redesigned quick settings with an optimized editing experience, in addition to updated visuals in network and Bluetooth settings.
  • Camera Improvements: Faster camera launch and reduced HDR processing time.
  • Enhanced Pop-up View: A pop-up view that can be moved and resized, making multitasking easier.
  • Other Improvements: AI-driven app selection, support for auto-archiving features, and partial window screen recording.

It is important to note that Shared Widgets are currently in beta and can only utilize square photo widgets. Support for other types of widgets is rapidly under development.
