A Google Assistant error causes some users to miss alarms and calls on Android.
Be careful with this.
A mysterious error has been detected in Google Assistant that affects the functionality of the Do Not Disturb setting. This issue means that important calls and alerts may be overlooked, as activating Do Not Disturb via a voice command not only silences notifications but also interferes with calls and alarms.
Initial reports of the problem surfaced on Reddit, and the Android Authority team was able to reproduce the issue. When Do Not Disturb is activated with Google Assistant, everything is completely silenced, including calls and alarms from contacts and apps that would normally have exceptions. As a result, important communications and notifications can be missed.
The simplest solution is to activate Do Not Disturb directly from the settings and shortcuts on Android, rather than using Google Assistant. This will ensure that the feature operates correctly. However, this bug could leave users caught off guard in critical situations.
The problem seems to relate to the different configurations of the Do Not Disturb mode that can be set. On Pixel phones, these options are found in the Settings section, under the Modes section. From there, users can customize the options and create additional modes, such as driving or sleep mode, each with specific settings regarding which apps and contacts should be silenced.
In the Reddit conversation, one user commented that they missed an alarm, and another mentioned that they had set their device to allow calls from a family member with dementia to interrupt Do Not Disturb mode, only to find that this feature was not working as expected.
So far, Google has not issued any comment on the bug or provided information about a potential fix. It is still unclear whether this issue affects all Android devices, but it is a matter to consider.
