Zepto user surprised by the price difference of the same items on Apple and Android phones; 'I thought it was fake...'

Zepto has been accused of using deceptive tactics to gain financial benefits.

A woman in Bengaluru was surprised to discover that the prices of products sold on Zepto varied significantly between Android and Apple users. In a video posted on Instagram, she compared the costs of the same items on two different devices using the Android and iOS operating systems. "Why do they do this?" she questioned while tagging Zepto in her post.

Pooja Chhabda, the woman featured in the video, decided to make this comparison after hearing rumors about a possible discrepancy in prices. "I thought it was false, but it's actually true," she stated in her recording. Chhabda showed that the price of 500 grams of grapes was 65 rupees on the Android phone, while on the iPhone, it reached 146 rupees. Similarly, the price of bell peppers was 37 rupees on Android and 69 rupees on the iPhone.

User reactions were swift, with many daring to explain the reasons behind this price difference. One user commented that "prices affect different accounts, probably the Android one is a new account or one that hasn’t made recent orders, which could offer some additional deals. I guess the iPhone owner has been ordering recently." Another user added that the price difference was mainly noticeable in fresh fruits and vegetables, but not in marked-price products.

It's worth noting that this is not the first time this issue has been addressed online. Recently, Zepto was accused of misleading customers using “dark patterns” that inflated prices for those with phones costing over 30,000 rupees. A similar case was mentioned by an Uber user, who claimed that the company charged different fares on different devices, sparking discussion about this phenomenon.
