YouTube Kids will get a redesign to resemble YouTube more closely.

Now you can scroll vertically through the Kidz Bop songs.

The YouTube Kids mobile app is getting a redesign that will make it look and function more like the standard YouTube app. Additionally, it will allow children to explore videos in vertical mode for the first time. This change will be rolled out in the coming weeks for both iOS and Android, while the experiences on the web and smart TVs will remain unchanged.

YouTube Kids was launched nearly ten years ago, and its appearance hasn’t changed much since the last major update in 2017. According to the company, this is a significant visual and functional overhaul that presents a less toy-like appearance, incorporating elements from the recent design of the main YouTube app.

At the top, there will be a new carousel designed for content filters, clearly labeled by topic, whether looking for video game-related entertainment, shows, music, or the educational tab “Explore.” These buttons will take up less horizontal space.

The options that used to be at the top, such as Home, Search, and Profile, will be moved to a new navigation bar at the bottom. Additionally, a new page called “Your Content” will be introduced, functioning as an exclusive portal to access downloaded, shared, or previously viewed content. Parental controls and other settings will still be available in dedicated views, with shortcuts always visible in the upper right corner, next to the Cast button.
