YouTube experiments with AI-generated music remixes.

Thirty seconds at a time.

YouTube is testing a new feature that will allow content creators to “restyle” licensed songs, using artificial intelligence to modify aspects like mood or musical genre. This experiment is available to a select group of creators, who can input a command to transform different elements of a song, after which the system will generate a 30-second remix suitable for their Shorts.

Creators participating in this testing phase can select a qualifying song, specify how they want to modify it, and generate an original 30-second track for their content. Each of these remastered tracks will include proper attribution to the original song, both in the Short itself and on the related audio page, as well as indicate that the remix was created with the help of artificial intelligence.

YouTube has explained that this initiative, known as Dream Track, allows creators to use AI-generated voices from artists who have consented to participate, including well-known names like Charlie Puth, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, and John Legend. It is still unknown which specific songs are available to be modified and which record labels are collaborating on this trial. However, a previous report suggested that YouTube has been in contact with major record labels to obtain permission to use their music in training artificial intelligence models.
