Your Samsung Galaxy smartwatch could soon transform into a remote control in true James Bond style.
Information has leaked indicating that Samsung is working on a "Pointer Mode" for its Galaxy smartwatches.
Recent leaks have revealed that Samsung is working on a new feature called "Pointer Mode" for its higher-end Galaxy Watch models. This feature will allow users to control their Samsung television through gestures, using their smartwatch as an innovative remote control device.
Information about "Pointer Mode" was discovered in version 1.3.12.9 of the SmartThings app for WearOS. The code indicates that this mode will be activated by moving the wrist, and users will be able to perform different actions with specific gestures. For instance, shaking the wrist will activate the feature. A 'pinch to select' gesture will allow users to choose options, while making a fist will serve to go back or return to the main screen. Additionally, moving the wrist back and forth will pause or play content, and rotating the watch bezel will allow users to scroll through options on the television screen. Ultimately, wrist movement will control the cursor on the screen.
It is believed that this feature will be exclusive to devices such as the Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Watch 7, and will require a compatible television. This capability is expected to be available only on Samsung's high-end models, such as the S90C and S95D.
It is important to clarify that this new functionality should not be confused with the upcoming launch of an application for iPhone called Wiimote, which will act as a touchpad. While Apple also has a remote control feature for its Apple TV, a system that uses gestures through a smartwatch would represent a significant and unique enhancement for Samsung watch users.
For now, there is no precise information about the launch date of this "Pointer Mode." The mere existence of the code does not guarantee that the feature is close to implementation or that it will even be launched.
