You can now try Microsoft’s AI Recall feature on Intel and AMD Copilot Plus PCs.
A new preview version has been released in the Windows development channel.
Microsoft has decided to expand the testing phase of its new Recall AI feature for Copilot Plus PCs using Intel and AMD processors. This development comes after the tech giant made a preliminary version of Recall available for laptops with Qualcomm processors last month, allowing Windows Insiders in the developer channel to explore this innovative feature.
Recall has the ability to capture screenshots of practically all activities performed on a Copilot Plus PC, making it easier to search for and retrieve previous information. Users have the option to enable these snapshots, which will allow them to find data through natural language searches or via a scrollable timeline.
Just as with Qualcomm devices, when installing the new version of the build for the developer channel, Windows 11 will download the necessary models for Recall and Click to Do in the background. Users must manually enable the snapshots and can manage which snapshots are saved or deleted, similar to how browsing history is cleared. Additionally, Microsoft has implemented an option to exclude applications and websites from Recall, and the functionality is also designed to automatically detect sensitive information such as credit card details, passwords, and personal identification numbers, ensuring that such data is not saved.
After researchers raised concerns about this feature, Recall's security has been strengthened. It now requires the use of Windows Hello to validate the user's identity before accessing the snapshots. BitLocker and Secure Boot must also be enabled, measures that should already be active on a Copilot Plus PC.
Alongside Recall, Click to Do is included in this testing phase. This feature can recognize text and images in Recall snapshots, enabling users to perform AI-driven actions, such as copying text or saving images from previous snapshots. Additionally, Microsoft is extending Click to Do beyond Recall, allowing users to perform actions on images and text using the Windows key plus mouse click combination.
Finally, new features such as Image Creator and Restyle Image are being introduced in the Photos app for Intel and AMD Copilot Plus PCs. These devices will also gain access to Cocreator in Paint, allowing users to generate AI-driven images directly within the Paint application.
