Yooka-Laylee will be remastered and will come to all consoles, including the upcoming Nintendo system.
The game Yooka-Laylee by Playtonic Games may be on its way to Nintendo's next Switch console.
Playtonic Games has announced that its homage to 90s 3D platformers, Yooka-Laylee, will be receiving a remastered version under the name Yooka-Re-playee. This new edition will be available for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo platforms, which could imply both the current Nintendo Switch and the upcoming console from the company.
Yooka-Laylee is considered a spiritual successor to genre classics like Banjo-Kazooie and Spyro the Dragon, as several of the developers from the original Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country were involved in the creation of this title. Funding for the development of this project was obtained through a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015, which raised over 2 million pounds. The game was released two years later for various platforms, including consoles, PC, and Mac. In 2017, Playtonic Games also released a sequel titled Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair.
The remastered version will feature enhanced graphics, new enemies to battle, as well as revised controls and camera perspectives. Additionally, the original soundtrack composed by Grant Kirkhope, known for Banjo-Kazooie, and David Wise, known for Donkey Kong Country, will be reinterpreted by a full orchestra.
The game retains gameplay similar to Banjo-Kazooie, offering a colorful and expansive world to explore. The protagonists, a chameleon named Yooka and a bat named Laylee, must confront an evil CEO named Capital B, who is trying to steal all the books in the world with a huge vacuum cleaner. Yooka and Laylee embark on an adventure in a place known as Hivory Towers with the goal of preventing Capital B from seizing the "Pagies" of the One Book, which has the power to rewrite the universe.
