X presents new labels for parody accounts.
X seeks to ensure that "users are not deceived."
X, formerly known as Twitter, has announced a new measure to improve clarity on its platform. As of Thursday, the official Safety account of X reported the implementation of specific labels for parody accounts. According to the statement, the aim of these labels is to clearly differentiate the types of parody accounts and the content they publish.
It is stated that these labels are designed to increase transparency and prevent users from being misled into thinking that such accounts belong to the entity they are parodying. The labels will be applied both in posts and on profiles within X, allowing users to easily identify the source of the content they are viewing. Additionally, it was promised that more details would be provided regarding when these labels will become mandatory for parody accounts.
The platform's CEO, Elon Musk, mentioned in 2022 that parody accounts should properly identify themselves or could face the possibility of permanent suspension. This decision was partly made due to the controversy arising from the recent option to purchase a blue verification, which made it difficult to differentiate between authentic accounts and their impersonators.
