Wing from Alphabet will deliver DoorDash orders in Dallas-Fort Worth using drones.
Hot to take away (at heights of approximately 45 meters).
Wing, Alphabet's subsidiary, has expanded its drone delivery service for DoorDash customers in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Starting today, customers can order products from 50 merchants located in shopping centers in Frisco and Fort Worth through the DoorDash app. Deliveries are promised in a time of "just 15 minutes," according to Wing.
The drones used in this service can reach speeds of up to 65 mph and operate at an altitude of approximately 150 feet. Once they arrive at their destination, the drones hover in the area before safely descending and dropping the orders to the ground. To access this delivery option, customers must have an "eligible address" in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, which will be indicated during the DoorDash checkout process. Those interested can check their eligibility on Wing's website.
This option will only be available if the order is within the designated service area. Wing has reported that it has completed over 400,000 commercial deliveries worldwide since launching its first pilot in the United States in 2019. The company has conducted similar collaborative testing with DoorDash in Australia and in Christiansburg, Virginia, although the latter was limited to Wendy's deliveries.
Additionally, this is not the only service that Wing has implemented in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, as it previously collaborated with Walgreens for local aerial deliveries. Walmart has also launched its own drone delivery program in the region through partnerships with Wing and Zipline.
