Will the iPad mini 7 (2024) include Face ID technology?
The Apple iPad mini 7 for 2024 features several improvements and necessary tweaks. However, has it already incorporated Face ID technology into this small tablet?
The iPad mini 7 (2024) is the latest addition to Apple’s extensive range of tablets. Its compact and portable design makes it an ideal choice for on-the-go use. Additionally, it features several improvements that prepare it for a future with Apple Intelligence, making it a valuable investment. The new version of the iPad mini offers double the storage, reaching 128 GB, while maintaining its previous price of $499. Although it closely resembles the iPad mini 6 (2021), it has removed the home button and thick bezels, giving it a profile similar to that of a Kindle.
Its display boasts a 2K resolution with a 60 Hz refresh rate, optimized to enhance the user experience and eliminate the notorious "jelly scrolling" seen in its predecessor. Equipped with an A17 Pro chip and other enhancements, this model is positioned as a candidate for Apple Intelligence use, as well as for utilizing the Apple Pencil. However, despite these updates, Apple has not included Face ID in the iPad mini 7.
The device, which features an 8.3-inch display and support for the Apple Pencil Pro, challenges expectations that Face ID would be integrated into the mini range. Instead, the iPad mini 6 continued to use Touch ID as its only biometric option. Although Apple has renewed the hardware and addressed support for Apple Intelligence, the company has decided not to add Face ID, which remains exclusive to the iPad Pro line. Therefore, if you wish to use this feature, it will be necessary to opt for the larger iPad Pro until Apple implements significant improvements in the mini line.
Despite the absence of Face ID, the iPad mini 7 retains the Touch ID system, which is easy to use. With no home button on the front, the sensor is located on the device's top button, similar to the iPad mini 6. So, while it is not possible to unlock the iPad mini 7 with your face for now, the system functions properly. Users can follow the on-screen steps to set up the sensor, allowing them to unlock the tablet, make payments, and download apps using their fingerprint. While it may feel a bit awkward for those accustomed to facial unlocking, it remains an effective and reliable method.
