What class to choose in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?
Dragon Age: The Veilguard will offer three classes to choose from, although there will be no option to try them out beforehand. Below is a summary of each to help you decide.
The character creator in Dragon Age: The Veilguard offers great depth. Players can customize almost every aspect of their character, from race to hair and eye color. Once the appearance is defined, an even more crucial decision arises: how the title will be played. By choosing between three classes, each with its own skill tree, specializations, weapons, and combat style, players must be cautious, as choosing a class is definitive; there is no option to change it unless a new game is started with another character.
Below is a detailed analysis of what to expect from each class and who it may be best suited for:
Warrior
The Warrior class is the ideal choice for players who want to be at the center of action. Equipped with heavy armor, they can alternate between wielding a sword and shield or a powerful two-handed weapon, such as an axe. Although they have some ranged options, like throwing their shield, the main focus is on building rage to unleash powerful melee skills or area attacks. The three specializations of this class are Reaper, Slayer, and Champion. The Reaper path is risky, as it allows sacrificing health points to increase damage, recovering life upon hitting enemies. Slayers are experts with two-handed weapons, capable of inflicting great damage and stunning multiple foes. Finally, the Champion specializes in absorbing damage and drawing enemy attention while countering with fire-based skills and area attacks.
Rogue
Rogues are quick and deadly, although fragile. Players can choose to wield dual weapons for significant damage, but at the risk of taking hits, or use a bow to attack from a distance. This class is considered the group’s damage-per-second (DPS) specialist and is the most versatile, with solid options for both melee and ranged combat, as well as traps and tools that can turn the tide of battle. Rogues can specialize in Duelist, Saboteur, or Veil Warden. The Duelist focuses on high-damage attacks with skills for parrying and dodging. The Saboteur utilizes traps, such as bombs and automated turrets, favoring the use of the bow to support the main tank. Finally, the Veil Warden dedicates fully to the bow, enhancing ranged attack skills and allowing arrows to deal magical damage and bounce between multiple enemies.
Mage
Lastly, the Mage class employs a basic approach to combat, focusing on casting powerful elemental spells while staying at a distance. While they are the weakest in terms of health points and can only wear light armor, their crowd control options and high damage allow them to stay safe. There is, however, an option to become a battle mage by adopting a more aggressive playstyle. Specializations include Deathcaller, Evoker, and Spellblade. The Deathcaller uses enemies' health to power their attacks in area bursts or generates auras that automatically drain opponents' life. The Evoker focuses on ice spells that hinder enemy movement and deal frost damage, with Vortex being their most powerful skill. Spellblades allow for a unique melee combat style using lightning magic, enabling short-range attacks or summoning an avatar to fight for them.
