A recently published patent reveals that Samsung had developed a design for a device with a triple fold system in 2021. This advancement adds to recent speculations that the company is exploring new phone formats. So far, Samsung has not officially confirmed the existence of such a device.

The patent document, which was disclosed by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, describes specifications for a three-fold device alongside a traditional book-style foldable model. The patent, initially filed by Samsung in 2021, shows a device with a Z-shaped hinge, similar to the Huawei Mate X, which was the first device of this kind to be released to the market in September, albeit exclusively in China. This leaves the door open for Samsung or other competitors to enter global markets.

According to reports, Samsung's patent includes new screen technology, such as a reinforced barrier layer to protect the inner screen and holes designed to reduce stress on the hinges. Samsung has been considered a likely leader in the race to launch a globally available triple-fold phone, complementing its Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 device lineup. Recently, reports emerged suggesting that the company is analyzing new phone formats.

Although this patent does not confirm that Samsung's triple-fold device is on the verge of being launched, it indicates that the company has seriously considered this concept.
