Warframe: 1999 launches tomorrow and brings with it a hefty dose of 90s nostalgia.

A conversation was held with voice actor Neil Newbon and the creative director of Warframe: 1999, Rebb Ford, to delve into the upcoming update of the sci-fi shooter.

Warframe is preparing for the release of its new expansion titled Warframe: 1999, which will be available on December 13 across all platforms. This chapter, inspired by the aesthetics of the 1990s, promises a deep solo experience, complete with an original grunge-style soundtrack and a voice cast that includes Ben Starr from Final Fantasy XVI and Neil Newbon, known for his portrayal of the vampire Astarion in Baldur's Gate 3.

Neil Newbon has had a successful year, not only for his role in Baldur's Gate 3 but also for his involvement as the voice of Fibonacci in Warframe's Whisper in the Walls expansion. Recently, he shared his experiences alongside Warframe's creative director, Rebb Ford, reflecting on his return to the game's universe in this new assignment.

Newbon commented on the tremendous reception that Baldur's Gate 3 received, where many players deeply connected with the characters and narratives. He highlighted how fortunate he feels for the opportunities that have come his way and how this allows him to explore his talent in various roles.

The decision to reintegrate Newbon for a prominent role in Warframe: 1999 felt natural for the development team. Ford expressed his desire to create a dynamic similar to that of Team Rocket characters, aiming to showcase two perspectives on military objectives, mingling the angst characteristic of the 1990s.

As the launch approaches, Newbon reminisces about the fun moments he experienced during his previous work with the team, recalling how he immersed himself in his role as Fibonacci, a fish in a huge tank, and the comedic anecdotes that emerged during recording.

The collaboration between Newbon and other talents has been key, as they feel comfortable challenging and elevating each other’s skills. For him, working in an environment where each person's talent is fully trusted creates a joyful and collaborative experience.

Before concluding the conversation, both were asked to describe Warframe: 1999 in three words. Newbon labeled it "awesome rock 'n' roll," while Ford leaned towards "full nostalgia and ego death."

The new expansion will not only offer an exciting narrative but will also include light reworkings of the Warframes Trinity and Nyx, increased capacity for weapon and Warframe slots, as well as a new category of cosmetics called Gemini Skins. So, fans looking to relive the energy of the 90s or those wishing to dive into the adventure of Warframe: 1999, mark your calendars for December 13.
