Viral Video of Vijay Deverakonda Shows How UPI SMS Fraud Can Cost You Dearly: Watch!
The filmmaker recounts the experience of how his friend was almost a victim of a scam.
In a recent video, actor Vijay Devarakonda, known for his role in Arjun Reddy, exposes how even movie stars are not safe from being scammed. In the recording, the artist is seen speaking with a friend to confirm whether he had received some money that was supposedly going to be returned to him. Devarakonda mentions, “Are you wondering why I checked with him twice? Here’s the reason.”
A few days ago, an acquaintance of the actor received a call from someone claiming to be a friend of his father. The individual in question stated that he owed a sum of money he had borrowed, specifying that his father had lent him 5000 rupees. Devarakonda feels that the situation already sounds suspicious. Furthermore, his friend received a text message indicating an amount of 50,000 rupees instead of 5000. The scammer argued that he had mistakenly added an extra zero and was requesting that his friend return the difference of 45,000 rupees, trying to support his story with a fictional tale about his wife in the hospital.
Fortunately, the actor’s friend was with him, allowing them to verify the information through a real bank statement. Devarakonda advises his followers to always check transactions in their statements and not to fall for scams, reminding them that while UPI is secure, it is vital to stay alert. In the event of a fraud attempt, he suggested responding: “Main moorkh nahi hoon” (I am not a fool).
There are six common types of UPI-related fraud, which include: 1) phishing fraud, 2) OTP or PIN fraud, 3) fraud through screen sharing applications, 4) vendor impersonation fraud, 5) misleading identification fraud in UPI, and 6) collection or refund fraud. Although scammers’ tactics may change, it is always important to follow these recommendations: 1) Do not share your PIN or OTP, 2) Do not download unauthorized apps, 3) Always verify with bank statements, and 4) If you or someone close to you becomes a victim, report the unauthorized transaction immediately.
