Ubisoft confirms that it is investigating the development of new Rayman games.
Ubisoft has confirmed that it is exploring the possibility of developing more games in the classic Rayman series, following previous reports about a remake of this title.
Ubisoft has confirmed that it is exploring the possibility of revitalizing the Rayman franchise, according to a statement from a company spokesperson. This revelation came after a previous report suggested a potential remake of the series. Team members from Ubisoft Montpellier, who recently worked on Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, have teamed up with Ubisoft Milan to explore the creation of new titles.
Ubisoft Milan, known for its work on the Mario + Rabbids games, where Rayman appeared in the additional content Rayman in the Phantom Show, is collaborating in this exploratory phase. Although the project is in its early stages of development, the spokesperson indicated that more details will be shared in the future. Fawzi Mesmar, who took on the role of vice president of editorial in 2021 and worked on Beyond Good & Evil 2, is involved in this initiative. Additionally, the creator of the Rayman series, Michel Ancel, is acting as a consultant to ensure consistency within the game universe. Although Ancel was the director of Beyond Good & Evil 2, he left the video game industry in 2020 to focus on a wildlife sanctuary, despite being under investigation for his management style.
Ubisoft's statement arose in response to reports indicating that they were working on a specific Rayman remake with several members of The Lost Crown team. It has been confirmed that most of the developers from Montpellier, involved in the development of a Metroidvania, have been shifted to other projects, including work on Beyond Good & Evil 2, a new main title for Ghost Recon, and the Rayman remake. The Rayman series has a rich history at Ubisoft Montpellier since its launch in 1995, with Rayman Legends being the last major game in the series, released in 2013.
Ubisoft has been busy recently, launching a major shooter called XDefiant, introducing Prince of Persia: The Rogue Prince in early access, and restructuring the development team behind the remake of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, just before its annual Ubisoft Forward event. Amidst all this, the company has also released Rabbids: Legends of the Multiverse, a new game exclusively for iOS through Apple Arcade. This title combines elements of a deck-building game with strategy, where players must face waves of enemies using cards that summon allies. Although it is not as tactical as the Mario + Rabbids series, it presents an appealing interpretation of genres for a younger audience.
In Rabbids: Legends of the Multiverse, players control an unfortunate Rabbid who becomes embroiled in an intergalactic incident. Armed with a camera that can instantly capture images of any creature and transform them into cards, the protagonist embarks on adventures through different eras. Although the game design is straightforward and the themes might be considered unoriginal, the experience is designed to delight a younger audience.
