Turok: Origins: Everything We Know So Far

The original dinosaur hunter returns, accompanied by new allies. Turok: Origins marks the long-awaited return of the series, so let's explore all the details.

The Turok series, which was once a pioneer in dinosaur hunting, is making a comeback after a long period of inactivity, with its last release in 2008. Originally known for its heyday on the N64 console, Turok is now gearing up to offer a new experience. Saber Interactive has announced Turok: Origins, an upcoming video game that, while it may initially remind players of Ark 2, promises unique gameplay and narrative, especially in its version for PlayStation 5.

Turok: Origins was unveiled at The Game Awards 2024, although no release date was specified. However, the trailer showcased polished gameplay, suggesting that the launch may not be far off.

This video game will be available on multiple platforms: PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. So far, the announcement trailer is the only material shared about the game. It features a CGI scene showing various Turok hunting dinosaurs in a jungle, using a mix of traditional and sci-fi weaponry. The trailer culminates with the appearance of a large alien ship before transitioning into gameplay.

The game director, Jesus Iglesias, mentioned in the PlayStation blog that Turok: Origins will integrate seamlessly into the Turok universe. The narrative will revolve around the legendary Turok Warriors, who will come together to save humanity from an aggressive alien species. Throughout the story, players will encounter ancient mysteries related to the Order of Turok and its history, although it is still unknown where in the timeline the story will take place and exactly who these aliens are.

In terms of gameplay, Turok: Origins will mark a significant shift from first-person shooting to third-person shooting. This decision is due to Saber’s greater experience in developing games of this type, in addition to bringing a new approach to the franchise. The game will also allow players to choose to play solo or in cooperative mode, although the exact number of players that can join has not been specified. A variety of combat options are anticipated, including special abilities, melee combat, and an arsenal consisting of bows, sniper rifles, energy blasts, and plasma rifles. An upgrade system based on collecting DNA from enemies as a resource will also be introduced.

For now, Turok: Origins can be added to a wishlist, and more information regarding pre-orders is expected to be provided in the near future.
