Trump's candidate for FTC chair vows to fight tech companies' 'censorship.'
Andrew Ferguson currently serves as a commissioner at the FTC.
Donald Trump has appointed Andrew Ferguson as the new chairman of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Ferguson will take over from Lina Khan, who has been praised by elected Vice President J.D. Vance for her work in fighting against big tech companies. In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “Andrew has a proven track record of opposing Big Tech censorship and protecting free speech in our great country.”
A document obtained by a specialized media outlet reveals that Ferguson plans to “reverse Lina Khan's anti-business agenda,” “hold big tech companies accountable and stop censorship,” as well as “protect free speech and combat wokeness.” Additionally, it is mentioned that Ferguson will oppose the “trans agenda.” Although he was appointed as a commissioner of the FTC in April, Trump indicated that Ferguson will begin his role as chairman on the “first day” of his administration.
In a post on X, Ferguson asserted: “At the FTC, we will put an end to Big Tech's vendetta against competition and free speech. We will ensure that America remains the world's tech leader and the best place for innovators to bring new ideas to life.” Trump also announced the nomination of Mark Meador, currently a partner at a law firm specializing in antitrust, to be a commissioner of the FTC.
