Trump proposes that Elon Musk lead the 'DOGE' office to reduce unnecessary public spending.

Musk was a prominent supporter of Trump's campaign.

Donald Trump, the elected president, has appointed Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to lead what he has called the Department of Government Efficiency, abbreviated as DOGE. This department aims to "clear the path" for his administration by seeking to dismantle government bureaucracy, reduce excessive regulations, eliminate unnecessary spending, and restructure federal agencies. According to a statement published on Truth Social, this new department will operate in some ways "outside of Government," collaborating with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget. Musk and Ramaswamy have until July 4, 2026, to carry out their work.

During his presidential campaign, Trump had mentioned that Musk would head a government efficiency commission if elected. Musk has suggested the possibility of cutting at least $2 trillion, something that, according to some sources, would be "virtually impossible" unless defense budgets or programs like Social Security were affected. Musk has acknowledged that these cuts could have severe financial impacts in the short term.

Musk seemingly confirmed the news on X, stating that "the goods will be 🔥🔥🔥". Additionally, since Election Day, the value of Dogecoin has doubled. Musk has backed Trump's campaign both in posts on X and through America PAC, which reportedly invested about $200 million to ensure Trump's election.

In Trump's statement, it is mentioned that Musk and Ramaswamy "together will pave the way" to dismantle government bureaucracy and make the Government more efficient, also aiming to improve the quality of life for all Americans. Trump emphasizes that the goal is to eliminate the enormous waste and fraud present in government spending, estimated at $6.5 trillion annually. The aim is for the joint work of Musk and Ramaswamy to conclude just before the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, leaving as a legacy a smaller, more efficient Government with less bureaucracy.
