TikTok Still Not Available in the App Store.
It is also not available on Google Play.
The TikTok app remains absent from the Apple and Google app stores, a week after it was removed. This action followed the enforcement of the divestment or prohibition law in the United States, which was implemented last weekend, leading to the suspension of the service in the country. Although TikTok was reinstated shortly after the ban, it has not become available again on either mobile platform.
The risk of Apple and Google facing multimillion-dollar fines if they allow access to TikTok is high, and the effectiveness of the executive order from President Donald Trump, who declined to enforce the ban, leaves uncertainties regarding this risk. Both companies have not responded to multiple requests for information about the potential reappearance of the app in their stores.
While they have issued statements related to the removal of TikTok and other ByteDance-owned apps, such as Lemon8 and Marvel Snap, no additional information has been provided since then. As for TikTok, there has also been no response to requests for comments. On the other hand, the developer of Marvel Snap, Second Dinner, mentioned that their game might return to app stores next week, barring any setbacks. Additionally, its co-founder responded on Bluesky about scheduled updates for next month, expressing hope that the app would be available again by then.
The absence of TikTok in these stores presents a considerable obstacle for users looking to install the app for the first time, as they will have to go through complicated alternative procedures. Moreover, this situation prevents updates that could introduce new features or fix bugs, including potential security vulnerabilities.
For those who already had TikTok installed on their devices before the ban, the app will continue to function as usual. In fact, a market has emerged for selling used phones that still have the app installed. It is also possible to use TikTok through a browser, including on mobile devices.
