Three Must-Watch Movies on Hulu to See This Weekend (October 11-13)

Dive into action, horror, and romance with our recommendations for three excellent Hulu movies you should watch this weekend.

Hulu continues to release notable movies for this October, even though we have not yet reached the middle of the month. While many of the cinematic selections are horror-related due to the proximity of Halloween, there are also some titles that stray from this genre. Among the new offerings is Blood for Dust, a crime action thriller that has been highlighted as one of the three must-sees on the platform this weekend. Other selections include a horror remake of a classic from the 80s and a romantic comedy/drama that celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year.

Blood for Dust (2024) features Kit Harington, known for his role in Game of Thrones, in a part that challenges his usual image. In this film, Harington portrays Ricky, an individual lacking any heroism. Ricky becomes the lifeline for Cliff (Scoot McNairy), who is facing job troubles. However, Cliff, who has already made mistakes in his life, makes an even bigger one by accepting Ricky's offer to get involved in arms and drug smuggling. What Cliff does not realize is that Ricky has no qualms about betraying his partners or leaving a trail of bodies in his wake. The situation becomes tense as Cliff might now be the only obstacle between Ricky and a major haul. The intrigue lies in determining who of the two will end up hurt.

Fright Night (2011) is a modern adaptation of the 1985 classic. Although the original version holds a superior status, this remake boasts a notable cast that includes Colin Farrell, David Tennant, and Anton Yelchin as the lead character Charley Brewster. Charley, along with his best friend Edward "Evil Ed" Lee (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), suspects that their new neighbor Jerry (Farrell) is a vampire, although he initially ignores it. With Evil Ed's disappearance, Charley begins to realize that his friend was right and that Jerry is preying on the residents in the area. In search of help, Charley turns to Peter Vincent (Tennant), a self-proclaimed vampire expert who is unwilling to get involved in a real situation, leaving him in a race against time to save his girlfriend, Amy Peterson (Imogen Poots), and other potential victims.

Sideways (2004) follows two friends, played by Paul Giamatti and Thomas Haden Church, on a trip through California's wine country. Jack Cole (Church) is about to get married, while Miles Raymond (Giamatti) is struggling as a writer. Aiming to relax, Miles confronts Jack's desire to meet women during this trip. The dynamic between them leads to hilarious situations, such as Jack's encounter with Stephanie (Sandra Oh) at a wine tasting event, and the potential romantic connection between Miles and a waitress named Maya Randall (Virginia Madsen). However, Jack's lie about his marital status could complicate things and affect the emerging relationship between Miles and Maya.
