Three Must-See Movies on Hulu to Watch This Weekend (December 13-15)

This weekend, you have the chance to enjoy three standout movies on Hulu that offer a mix of dance, romance, period drama, and dark comedy.

Subscribers of the Disney package have surely noticed that Hulu stands out as the most comprehensive option among the streaming platforms owned by the company, mainly due to its extensive catalog of movies and series, which surpasses that of Disney+. This week, Hulu has added a couple of independent films that might get lost among the numerous franchises on Disney+. These two films have been selected to be part of our list of the three highlighted Hulu movies to watch this weekend. Among our recommendations is the first installment of a popular romantic franchise, a historical drama, and a dark comedy. Additionally, if you're looking for something more festive, we've also compiled a list of the best Christmas movies available on Hulu.

One of the films we recommend is "Step Up" (2006), distributed by Buena Vista Pictures. This film has been pivotal in the resurgence of the romantic dance drama genre and has led to five sequels. Channing Tatum plays Tyler Gage, a dancer who is also a car thief, sentenced to complete extensive community service at the Maryland School of the Arts. While working as a janitor, Tyler watches Nora Clark (played by Jenna Dewan) during one of her performances and decides to incorporate some of her moves into his dance routine. Nora, recognizing his talent, asks Tyler to be her partner for an important dance showcase. However, this collaboration may not only define their futures but also awaken romantic feelings between them.

Another film, "The Convert" (2023), features an intriguing performance by Guy Pearce as Thomas Munro, a former soldier who becomes a minister. Set in the early 19th century, Munro arrives in New Zealand with the goal of preaching and converting the Māori tribes. However, he finds himself caught in a conflict between two tribes that reflects the interests of his country, Britain. Munro, in his quest for spiritual redemption, refuses to allow a young woman, Maianui (Antonio Te Maioha), to be murdered, and while he tries to convert her to Christianity, he begins to question the morality of his British compatriots as he seeks a way to achieve peace between the tribes.

Finally, "Coup!" (2024), starring Peter Sarsgaard as Floyd Monk, presents a man who believes that to fight against the wealthy, he must first serve them. Under a false name, Floyd is hired by Jay “J.C.” Horton (Billy Magnussen) and his wife, Julie (Sarah Gadon), as a cook in their mansion during the 1918 pandemic. As conditions on the island worsen, Floyd doesn’t need to resort to many manipulations to incite the other servants to rise up against the Hortons. Amidst this struggle, J.C. realizes that his cook is in control of the situation.
