Three Incredible Hulu Movies You Must Watch This Weekend (December 6-8)
This weekend, three excellent movies await you on Hulu that combine action, romance, and a fun reinterpretation of iconic characters.
As we enter the first full weekend of December, Hulu positions itself as the preferred destination for movie lovers. While Netflix boasts a more extensive library, Hulu offers a more distinguished selection of films, having recently added a new series of movies for this month. Below are our recommendations for three excellent films you shouldn't miss on Hulu this weekend.
The first film is one of the rare action movies that has won the Oscar for Best Picture: Gladiator (2000). This film is back on Hulu just as Gladiator II is enjoying great success in theaters. Ridley Scott, although not recognized with the Oscar for Best Director for this work, did take home the award for Best Picture. Russell Crowe shines in his portrayal of Maximus, a general in the Roman army who enjoys the favor of the emperor, Marcus Aurelius, who chooses him as his successor to restore the Roman Republic. However, Marcus's son, Commodus, played by Joaquin Phoenix, will not allow his legacy to slip away and, after murdering his father, usurps the empire and ensures the death of Maximus's family. Turned into a slave and gladiator, Maximus faces death in the arena but finds in his skills the opportunity to regain his glory and take revenge on Commodus.
Another notable option is Sommersby (1993), which depicts a passionate romance between the characters played by Richard Gere and Jodie Foster, Jack and Laurel Sommersby. The premise revolves around Laurel's doubt about whether Jack is really her husband. Before the Civil War, Jack was known for his abusive behavior, but upon his return, he shows genuine and compassionate love towards his wife and son. In addition to trying to revitalize his marriage, Jack aims to rebuild his town and help his neighbors, including newly freed slaves. However, his past and the resentment of a jilted lover could jeopardize his new life.
Finally, The Muppets (2011) offers a charming update of Jim Henson's charismatic characters. Jason Segel plays Gary, the adoptive brother of a Muppet named Walter, who feels lost until he takes a trip to Los Angeles with Gary and his girlfriend, Mary. There, Walter discovers a plan to destroy the Muppets' legacy and, to save it, he convinces Kermit and the others to reunite for a special event. Throughout their adventure, both Gary and Walter confront questions about their own identity and place in the world.
