Threads is developing a community groups feature.

It sounds similar to what is known as subreddits or X communities.

Threads is developing a new community feature that would allow users to gather around specific topics and interests. A developer, Chris Messina, detected mentions of "Loops" in the code of the latest update of the Threads app, suggesting it could be similar to the "Communities" feature of X or even to subreddits.

The code reveals features such as the ability to join or leave a Loop community, as well as the option to assign a name and description. This information complements previous research conducted by developer and leaker Alessandro Paluzzi, who found examples that could illustrate how the Loops feature would function within the Threads app. Among his findings is an image that shows a chat bubble icon—identified by Paluzzi as the Loops button—located next to the notifications icon in the top right corner of the app.

Currently, there are few details on how Loops will work, and Meta has not provided clear statements about it. An anonymous spokesperson for Instagram mentioned that the feature is "in initial development" and is not being tested at this time, either internally or externally. It is still unclear how Loops will operate, since Threads does not use traditional hashtags but instead allows users to tag their posts with a single topic or phrase, such as "Tech Threads" or "Sports Threads." These tags tend to be quite general, so the Loops feature could facilitate tracking and engaging with more specific topics if it is implemented in the future.
