Concerns about data privacy and digital sovereignty have led many companies to seek alternatives to popular platforms like Microsoft Teams. Recently, Microsoft introduced an alert for messages from external contacts in response to phishing attacks on its platform. In this context, Nextcloud Talk emerges as an open-source online collaboration solution that prioritizes data protection, offering users the ability to work securely from anywhere while maintaining total control over their sensitive information.

Unlike browser-based tools that require constant tab-switching, the Nextcloud Talk desktop application integrates directly into the user's workflow, providing real-time notifications and facilitating participation in calls. Furthermore, this software consolidates communication tools such as chat, video calls, and webinars in one place.

Nextcloud emphasizes that its platform focuses on high-security communication, ensuring that all data complies with GDPR, making it an ideal choice for organizations and public institutions looking to remain compliant while processing data in the EU. It also allows for deployments in air-gapped environments, where communication networks are disconnected from external networks, ensuring that sensitive conversations and files remain secure.

Among the additional features, Nextcloud Talk includes artificial intelligence capabilities that simplify daily tasks. For instance, it can generate summaries of video conferences and chat logs, allowing users to quickly review key points from meetings and helping to create task lists for teams to stay organized.

Collaboration goes beyond just communication; it also requires brainstorming and sharing concepts in real-time. To support this dynamic, Nextcloud Talk offers an interactive whiteboard feature that enables teams to visually collaborate during calls and edit documents in real-time.

Additionally, to avoid prolonged and ineffective meetings, Nextcloud Talk has implemented a feature that automatically ends calls after a preset period, thereby promoting efficiency in meetings.

Nextcloud's CEO, Frank Karlitschek, stated that companies need effective collaboration tools, but many available solutions are not GDPR-compliant and rely on U.S. tech giants. "We address the limitations of other platforms by offering true digital sovereignty and total transparency. Our tools enable organizations to manage their communication with complete control over their data, independently and securely," he concluded.
